Planting aviaries

Beneficial and beautiful

A well planted aviary is beneficial for the birds we keep. Of course a green aviary will be more attractive for the owner, caretakers and visitors too, to experience a more natural habitat of the birds. We use plants and shrubbery to simulate a natural environment, as it functions as shelter (against rain, sun, wind and predators), for roosting, food and it gives nesting opportunities. Helophytes (plants from marshy environment) may also help filtering the water.

Bigger species of wildfowl (geese, swans) will, obviously, consume or demolish smaller plants easier then their smaller counterparts (ducks, teals). So we'll have to experiment with the most suitable plants for every species. Through the years we have planted a wide variety of flora in our aviaries, of which a list can be found below, in alphabetical order of their botanical names.
